Sophomore Evan Offutt plays on the Shawnee Mission South JV basketball team. “I’m #44 on the court but #1 in your hearts ladies and gentlemen,” Offutt said. Evan’s had quite the basketball life starting very young at about the age of 5 and hasn’t stopped just yet. If basketball doesn’t work out I guess he has to get that A in geometry.

 

 

M.H-How long have you been playing basketball?

E.O-Since I was in preschool.

M.H-Why did you want to start playing basketball?

E.O- Family got me into it my dad and grandpa both played

as well.

M.H-Who influenced you to start?

E.O- My grandpa because it was a way to connect with him.

M.H-How has basketball impacted your life?

E.O- It is something that I can relate to with people and it’s a conversation starter. It has allowed me the opportunity to teach kids.  Here’s where I want to know more

M.H- If you weren’t playing basketball what do you see yourself doing?

E.O- “Not failing geometry.” Probably playing other sports most likely golf.

M.H-Is it hard or easy to play with your teammates? Why?

E.O- Both it can be frustrating but it’s always good to have teammates by my side when playing.

M.H-What’s one of the best moments you’ve had as a team while playing?

E.O- Winning our basketball championship in 6th grade. It was the first time winning a championship as a team and just for me as well. “I felt on top of the world,” sophomore Evan Offutt said.

M.H-What’s something you are most proud about with basketball?

E.O- I played in an all star game downtown in 8th grade only two people got picked and I was one of them.

M.H-Do you plan on playing in college why or why not?

E.O- No I have other things I want to do “I have real world things I want to do,” sophomore Evan Offutt said.

M.H-Do you think basketball should be a girls sport too why or why not?

E.O- Yes because I think girls should have an equal right to play. I would play and compete against girls.

M.H-Do you play any other sports? If so what are they?

E.O- Golf

M.H-What’s something you love about basketball?

E.O- “The fans cheering my name or the cheerleaders, evan! evan! evan!” but winning because it’s satisfying.

M.H-What’s something you don’t like about basketball?

E.O- Playing defense because it’s too much work.

M.H-What’s the bus ride like when going to away games?

E.O- Very energetic, fun, and loud I enjoy them very much.

M.H-How do you manage time during your week? What does your schedule look like?

E.O- I come home eat then focus on my studies and if time take a shower.
