Freshmen’s Perfect Season

Coach Tim Williams has led his freshman team to a perfect season. 8-0. The hard work has come to results. The two hour long practices six days a week have blended together with skill on the field to create a season to remember.

The day is August 15th, 33 freshmen have suited up to create a team to field. We didn’t really understand how difficult the work that Coach Williams would make us do would be. In fact, at the time, we didn’t know our coach. Mr. Williams came to the rescue and decided to coach us. Everyone knows Mr. Williams is a strict guy, but no one really understands it as much as the 33 freshman players.

During the summer, I fractured my collarbone and the injury sidelined me until the second week of football. Hurt and serving as a waterboy,  the long practices were not too fun. Watching my teammates play, all I can do is sit and watch. Resulting from my foolish acts at the practices, Coach decided to adopt the name “Dingleberry” for me.

The season started on August 31st in a game against SM North. None of us really knew how we squared up against our competition. Within the first couple of minutes of the first game we figured it out. After 4 quarters of domination, we won 64-0.

After suffering for three weeks of sitting out, I started practicing for week 2 against Lawrence Free State. We knew this would be a tough game considering the talent Free State’s varsity team has. We went down 13-20 in the first half, but Coach Williams’ conditioning practices payed off and we were able to come back in the second half and win 33-20.

Along came blowouts against Winnetonka and Leavenworth. Olathe East was a tough opponent. In the end we won 28-21. Blowout wins against SM Northwest, SM West and Olathe Northwest brought us to a record of 8-0.

Being able to experience it first person was really cool and being able to see the entire team mold together and create history. I would like to thank my teammates and coaches for a great season and a great experience.
