On Saturday, April 20, Terrale Johnson was found dead in his apartment. His cause of death is currently unknown.
Johnson, also known as “Coach T,” was a paraprofessional who worked with students with special needs at South and also coached track and football. He previously coached football at Mill Valley. Johnson attended K-State and played for the Wildcats football team from 2014-2016.
On Tuesday, April 23, the Raiders girls soccer team played Mill Valley and held a moment of silence for Coach T. Athletic director Mark Mahoney spoke before the game.
“The Mill Valley and Shawnee Mission South communities lost a true role model in not just athletics, but life in general. Terrale Johnson will be dearly missed, but his spirit and teachings will continue to inspire us all,” Mahoney said.

On Sunday, April 28, there will be a remembrance walk for Coach T held in the South football stadium from 8-9 p.m, with a candlelight vigil at 8:45 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear K-State Purple in his memory. In the case of rain, the event will be canceled.
A GoFundMe has been organized by Shawnee Mission South parents to raise money for Coach T’s family.
