The e-pass was implemented during summer. This new pass system has caused controversy leaving people wondering is this really the best way to go about hall passes?
Most freshmen who have given their input seemed to favor the pass system.
“It’s way more convenient on the MacBook then paper, because you’re gonna lose the papers and MacBook, it’s like already right there, and there and done,” freshman Simron Abdulrazak said.
However, their outlook could be attributed to their minimal use of the previous pass system and the time they were given to be acclimated to the pass system in middle school. Although, some teachers share a similar sentiment.
“I think it helps safety wise in knowing who’s supposed to be in the hallway and who’s not supposed to be in the hallway,” Special Education Teacher Tim Walker said.
Assistant Principal Dr. Bauer explained the reasoning behind implementing the pass.
“When we have a conversation each year about things that we can continue to improve on, one of the things that we wanted to focus on was, how can we create more opportunities or ensure that our kids are maximizing their class time?” he said.
The passes are heavily criticized by students for their overcomplication.. A poll posted on The Patriot Instagram showed a 98% (1/52) preference against the e-passes. Some students said they “take forever” and are too much work. Many students preferred the previous paper passes due to less technical issues and less hoops to go through.
“Paper passes?” junior Emilie Wolfe said. “I think they were fine. I don’t know. I didn’t really see the issue with them.”
