Manahil Fatima and Ally Kempf always wanted to make a horror short film. When they got into KSMS, they decided it was time. They met fellow KSMS member Maia Chhatriwalla in the fall and got to producing the short film they’d been planning since summer.
“It took us a couple days to write the story, like, we kind of got right to it,” Manahil said. “We were like, ‘Okay, we’re gonna brainstorm the ideas,’ we did, and we wrote the story. Filming took time because we all were really busy.”
They filmed the four-minute-long short film over the course of a few weeks in mid-September. They knew it all had to be done by the end of October to be released for KSMS’s Halloween show.
Editing was the hard part. Kempf edited the film over a couple of weeks and it was ready a few days before October 31.
“Ally plays a huge role because Ally was editing the video. So that’s a really hard part right there,” Manahil said. “We were all three directors of scenes. So, some scenes, I was directing, some scenes, Maia was directing, some scenes, Ally was the cameraman, other scenes, I was the cameraman, or Maia was the cameraman. So, it was definitely a little bit of everyone doing everything.”
The short film was released on KSMS’s YouTube channel. As of its release, there are no plans for a sequel, but the film’s open ending may leave an opportunity.
