The SM South campus was put into a lockdown drill called by Associate Principal Ben Richardson on December 9 at around 1:25 p.m.
According to an email to parents by Principal Todd Dain, the lockdown was called after a report of an incident in which a student was found in possession of a weapon. The drill was lifted at 1:43 p.m. after law enforcement gave an all clear.
“This is the extent of the information that can be released at this time,” Dain said in the email. “I am proud of our students and staff who navigated a challenging situation with poise and patience. We appreciate your support.”
Administrators were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
According to Overland Park Police, in a statement to KCTV5, the weapon was a firearm. Nobody was injured in the incident.
