Non alcoholic cocktails
Atomic Cowboy has a nice assortment of virgin cocktails so we started by ordering the Prickly Pear and the Strawberry Basil Spritzer. The Prickly Pear is an interesting purple drink that comes with a salt rim and is made with agave syrup, lime juice, and prickly pear juice. The flavor reminds me of watered down grape juice with a hint of lemonade and was otherwise pretty bland. The Strawberry Basil Spritzer on the other hand was notably the better option. It’s made with house-made strawberry rhubarb jam, lemon, basil, and soda water and it tastes pretty much how you’d expect–like a fancy strawberry lemonade. Both drinks had a bit of a spicy kick to them that enhanced their unique flavor. Though the Strawberry Basil Spritzer was significantly better, both cocktails are worth a try. If you’re looking for a sweeter drink, go with the strawberry one, but if you want a more subtle flavor go for the pear.
Loaded garlic knots
We chose the loaded garlic knots for our appetizer and they didn’t
disappoint. The bread had a harder exterior with a soft interior, giving it a nice crunch, and it was coated with garlic and pesto. They were served with two different sauces to dip them in–tomato sauce and melted cheese. The flavors and textures went really well together and the garlic knots were good with or without the sauces. There were a little over a dozen knots so this appetizer could easily be shared with a larger group.
Pizza slice
The Fat Sully’s build your own pizza menu has a large variety of toppings for .75 cents each and the option of either having red or white sauce. Eli ordered a pizza slice topped with pepperoni, sausage, and black olives. One slice of pizza may not seem like a lot to order on its own, but the slices they serve are New York style and absolutely huge. I don’t have much to say about the pizza itself as it was pretty much what you’d expect–greasy, large, and thin.
Chicken Sando
Though a chicken sandwich is a fairly simple menu item, their Chicken Sando was far better than average. The bun was a light and flavorful brioche bun, the buttermilk fried chicken was divine, and the pickles helped pull it all together. I’d say the best part about it was the Duke’s mayo, which I would order a gallon of if I could. I’d definitely recommend the Chicken Sando if you go to Atomic Cowboy.
Waffle fries
The fries themselves are good but the house-made barbecue seasoning they’re tossed in is incredible. The savory crunch of the fries paired with the sweet seasoning was a delicious combination.
Other notes
Atomic Cowboy is a great experience. It would definitely make a good place to bring a big group of people with how big the portions of food are and all of the games they have in the restaurant. I had a great time dragging Eli along with me and I would definitely go again to try the Denver Biscuit Company menu.
