For the first time since 2023 the Raiders secured a win at home against Pittsburg 35-6.
Pittsburg came in 1-0 after a win against Emporia High School week one. The Raiders looked for a bounce back win after dropping their home opener to Olathe North.
Senior running back Marquan Washington led the way for the Raiders with three touchdowns and 130 yards, breaking off a 58-yard touchdown run to put South up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.
“I felt like I had a chip on my shoulder because I didn’t perform well last week,” Washington said. “So I came out and wanted to be the best and that’s what I did.”
Along with Washington, senior quarterback backSolomon Hirsch combined for 195 total yards with two touchdowns.
“We wanted to come out here and dominate,” Hirsch said. “We came out hot in the first half with a fast paced offense and we were just able to keep that going throughout the whole game.”
The Raider defense was strong, holding the Dragons to only 6 points, forcing three fumbles and one interception, working to get the Raider offense back on the field.
The Raiders (1-1) will travel to Gardner-Edgerton Friday, Sept.19 for a matchup with the seventh ranked Trailblazers. Pittsburg (1-1) is back in action Friday, Sept.19 at Labette County.
