The Raiders kicked off Homecoming weekend beating their cross town rivals, SM West, 30-17.
South was looking to bounce back after a loss at Gardner-Edgerton. West was also looking for a win after a loss to Free State.
After the 3rd quarter South was up 16-14 as it was close up into that point of the game. Senior quarterback Solomon Hirsch connected with senior Drake Debaun for a touchdown in the first 2 minutes of the fourth to put the Raiders up 23-14.
Hirsch was responsible for all four Raider touchdowns: three through the air and one on the ground.
After a Viking field goal to bring West within one touchdown and an SMS turnover on downs, the Vikings took over with 6 minutes remaining in regulation. They were unable to move the ball and on 4th and 8 from their own 16 yard line they attempted a pass that was intercepted by senior Corey Grant and returned it to the 11 yard line of the Vikings.
Hirsch completed a touchdown pass to sophomore Will Bagby to put South up 30-17 with two minutes left.
South held their lead and won 30-17. South moves to 2-2 and will play at Olathe East Friday Oct. 3. West drops to 1-3 and will host Olathe North Friday Oct. 3.
