The revamped Green Bean officially opened with a soft launch on Aug. 28. With a new DECA sponsor, menu updates, and the ability to get drinks and food for free. DECA is a business club any student can participate in. Students in DECA learn about business ethics, how a business works, and even go to DECA competitions all across the nation. The Green Bean however, is a class you can take after being in the Intro to Business pre-requisite. The Green Bean is South’s coffee shop located in the library.“Mr. Myers, our new teacher, actually thought of the idea, it was more targeted towards our bus rider audience,” Green Bean member Olivia Moody said.
The soft launch helped the Green Bean gain potential customers,
“That showed incoming freshmen and other people what we sold at the Green Bean, our new products and our formulas,” Moody said.
The new drinks have been stocked at the start of the year, they now have Twist Ups, iced tea, lemonade, Arnold Palmers, and Gatorade zeros.
In addition they are selling drink packets and a variety of snacks,
“We’re now selling Alani packets. So if the Alani packets do well, we’ll start selling real Alanis. We have gum, skinny pop, granola bars, and gummies,” said Moody.
Myers, the new DECA sponsor, is planning on making a difference to the space itself.
“Hopefully there’s gonna be an aesthetic change,” Myers said, “we’re gonna make it look a little bit different here, we’re gonna get some refrigerators with some displays so you can see bottled drinks that we’re gonna sell. We’re gonna try to expand into some smoothies and other product lines.”
While this is Myers first year at South, he has been teaching business for 21 years,
“I realized after my first year in college that maybe a business degree wasn’t what I wanted to go towards, and I had a really great experience in high school with my business teacher and so I was like, why not be a business teacher instead?” Mr. Myers said.
He has been enjoying leading the Green Bean so far,
“I love that it gives students experience selling, doing all kinds of on the job stuff.” Myers said.
