With the beginning of a brand new year brings in yet another season of Cross Country. But with the graduation of many of their varsity runners, cross country has had to take on the responsibility of rebuilding the team. Even with most of their veteran runners returning there is still a gap to fill.
“We have a lot of them returning, but still working on building up that program.” Coach Wanamaker said.
Six out of the thirty-two members on the cross country team graduated with five of them being on varsity. And with new players coming in it has put a bit of pressure on the team. Leaving most of the existing members to step up to the task such as Sophomore Luke Jansen.
“We’re gonna keep all of our team this year into next year, so it’ll be good.” Jansen said.
Luke gave a brief insight into how the rebuilding effort is going within cross country. Saying that it is going well and with most of the team sticking together it should be a while until they have such a major gap like this one. With most of their skills and practice translating well onto the field. The position having to be filled not being as treacherous as it seemed to be.
While there has been some struggle attempting to catch up and readjust there seems to be promising potential. With the new season brings new people and with new people brings new challenges. But through the guidance of Coach Wanamaker and their fellow teammates the cross country team’s effort at rebuilding seems to be going very well.
