The band began the year with their marching season, coinciding with football games and doing competitions throughout the first quarter and beginning of the second. On Oct. 11, the band had a competition in Olathe, serving as a last testing ground before the biggest concert of the year, Warrensburg.
“We had a competition at Olathe where we took first place in music and sixth place overall,” junior Michael Voth said. “We’re feeling pretty good, especially with that first place in music, but we’re feeling like we need to focus this week and to prepare for Warrensburg, which is a bigger competition to improve after the sixth place.”
At Warrensburg, the band performed quite nicely with an overall fourth place. The band made sure to have all the pieces of their show to fall into place perfectly, delivering what some believe to have been their best run of the show.
“We got fourth place overall, second in our division, and our first place in drum majors, which is pretty cool,” junior Holden Greengo said. “ Looking back at the recordings of the show, it was definitely our best run, and a lot of the forms came together nicely.”
With Warrensburg came the end of the marching season. Following their marching season activities at football games and competition, the band will make the transition into concert season.
“[Following Warrensburg,] we’ll go into our concert season,” junior Jackie Welch said. “We’ll split off into a temporary symphonic and concert band. We’ll have a winter concert, after that, we’ll have our symphonic band tryouts, and then next semester, we’ll have our official concert and symphonic bands.”
