Choir Carols
“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear,” Buddy the Elf said it best in the movie “Elf.” Choir embodied this saying with vocalists in casual Christmas wear in the auditorium stage to sing gleeful, seasonal themed tunes tonight at the Winter Choir concert. Through a combination of traditional Christmas songs, Hanukkah songs, and music intended to establish a holiday mood, the concert will create a winter wonderland.
Heritage choir will sing and dance to a jazzy spin by singer, Michael Bublé on the classical number, “Jingle Bells.” Heritage incorporates the adaptation through a couples dance, while singing to the fun, spirited number.
“I love all of the jazz. We always end up dancing, and we just put a big, happy Christmas show together,” said senior Collin Richardson, a member of Heritage and A Cappella choirs.
A Cappella choir will sing “Crazy Carols,” three common Christmas songs made into parodies. The songs that were made into spoofs included “Tardy Bells,” (“Jingle Bells,”) “We Wish You A Tasty Fruit Cake,” (“We Wish You A Merry Christmas”) and “Deck the Halls.”
“The thing that I like about Ms. Peterson and what I appreciate about her is that she does tradition, but also switches it up as much as possible,” A Cappella member Tionne Allen said.
With a mix of Heritage, A Cappella, Chanticleer, Varsity Men and Women’s Choir members will come together to sing traditional songs such as; the Hallelujah chorus from Händel’s Messiah, along with Carol of the Bells.
“Carol of the Bells is a very popular song that has been glamorized through commercials,” Allen said.
This weekend the Heritage singers are continuing their holiday spirit by going Christmas Caroling and singing a Jazz Trio at Legends, the Plaza and Union Station.
