Review: Titanfall
*NOTE: THIS GAME IS ONLY MULTIPLAYER AND REQUIRES XBOX LIVE!*
SPACE! GIANT ROBOTS! WALLRUNNING! DANG!!!
After playing Titanfall for a good three days nonstop. And achieving to level 47 within three days, im hella sure that I can give a super heartfelt and honest review.
Okay okay, it’s another game from INFINITY WARD (Ooooooh Noooo It’s the devs who made ALMOST ALL the Call of Duty Games boohoo) and it’s totally going to be another Call of Duty game that everyone’s probably sick of and people are going to argue “CALLA DOODY IS BETTER” or “NAH BADDLEFEELD IS MUCH MORE BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!”
I’m going to say Yes, and No.
Meaning yes, Titanfall has it’s hoots and hollers and it’s flaws. And no it’s not the same running and gunning, corner camping, kid yelling game you know and faced (Maybe loved and spent your money on dumb gun skins, except the Kawaii skin, thats rad.)
Let me explain, sure theres running and gunning but you last longer, by an additional minute or 30 seconds. And you die FAIRLY, meaning some kid doesn’t set up a campfire at a corner and pick off easy kills, it means A GIANT ROBOT SHOOTS YOU TO SMITHEREENS, an enemy pilot comes from the shadows and turns your head 360 degrees then you black out!, a guy runs on the wall lands behind you and kicks your back with such supreme swagger and style!
Those what I mean by fair kills, those will happen a lot in Titanfall, legit fair kills that you know you have done it with your own skill and finesse.
Speaking of running and gunning, there’s more than that. As I mentioned earlier the game features parkour and wall running abilities to increase mobility and style, and it gives the game a faster feel and touch to it.
AND TO EVEN MAKE IT FASTER, PLAYER RESPAWN TIMES ARE LIKE THREE SECONDS FROM DEATH! And if you’re curious about how the other player did you good you can always watch but still you can just respawn three seconds later. WOW SUCH FAST, SO RAPID! (I was extremely pleased with this and gave me more time to keep playing, rather than watching me getting owned in the face)
Player customization is pretty rad but lacks a little in my opinion. Players can customize their pilot and their titan of choice. But in the early levels you’re given pre-set options till you can level up to the point where you can make your own customizations. As the player levels up, more options are there for you to mix and match your personal playstyle. Like players can focus on small guns and high mobility or imitating John Rambo with any large gun they possess.
Also an interesting concept about Titanfall are Burn Cards. Burn cards are little boosts that give you enhanced weapons, (ie more damage, modded better), gives you more exp to unlock things faster, reduce the time you launch your Titan. Burn cards are acquired by completing games and leveling up. So if you’re not doing so well, use a Burn Card to get a little help. But be careful, Burn Cards are only usable once and you can only have three Burn Cards active in a match.
But like don’t worry your deck of Burn Cards will get filled up quite fast.
NOW ENOUGH MAMBY PAMBY MENU THINGS LETS TALK ABOUT GAMEPLAY.
Titanfall has your classical game modes like, Campaign ( WHICH IS NOT WHAT YA THINK ), Last TITAN standing, Capture the Flag etc. Campaign mode features the simple story and the conflict of the two factions, the IMC and the Militia. Campaign mode is pretty twisted, and is not single player, it’s basically a small taste of Titanfall and it pretty much plops you in the game with different game modes and some background chatter while you play, hoping you’d understand the conflict of these two sides. (I didn’t understand the story at all don’t worry if you don’t either.)
Campaign mode only features two game modes but there are more like, Pilot Hunter, Attrition, Hardpoint Domination. They’re all rad and fast, but if you’re not sure what to play, Titanfall recommends you to play Attrition because it’s like the easiest and mindless out of the others.
Once you choose what you wanna play, you better be ready because it’s gonna be pretty quick when they hook you up with other angry nerdwarriors who want to wreak havoc in gigantic robots. No like seriously it’s really fast, the first time I did it, I wanted to get some snacks but the game found a game for me in like less than 5 seconds. I am serious it’s less than five seconds, you might find a lobby which will start in a minute, or a game that’s already in progress where everything is blowing up in pieces.
After the match wait times are quite short so you have some time to glance over new unlocked items, take a breather, or take a bite of your spicy chicken sandwich from Wendys. But not take a bathroom break, those take lots of time.
What I really like most about Titanfall is, IT’S QUITE BALANCED. (In my opinion) HOW?! There is no weapon that every single player uses, in a match. All of the players have their own personal choice of playstyle and all that riffraff. NO ONE STANDS IN THE SAME PLACE FOR FIVE MINUTES! Because it’s not beneficial for you or the team if you kinda just sit there, because the more havoc you wreak the faster you get your large robot.
All that’s been said, Titanfall will also has it’s flaws like, you want more weapons, titans, and kits. You’re not into shooters, you’ll think some kills are cheap, you don’t wanna pay for xbox live, etc etc. AND MOST OF ALL, ONE CAN GET BORED WITH IT.
But all in all Titanfall is a great game! It’s a good game to play while waiting for other games in the future. (I’m lookin at you Watchdogs)
Titanfall is available on PC on Origin, XBOX 360 and XBOX One.
