SMS Care Club came together on Sunday, Sept. 28, to bake dozens of cookies for Ronald McDonald House. The group met at senior Isaac Lanan’s house at 4:00 P.M. in what was initially planned as a cookie decorating event for charity.

“Originally, we were planning on just frosting the cookies, but we realized pretty quickly that the cookies we bought wouldn’t hold frosting,” junior Adric Tenuta said. “In hindsight, it was probably better that way. We got to make more cookies without worrying about what they looked like.”

After baking dozens of peanut butter and oatmeal raisin cookies, the group filed into cars and drove out to downtown Kansas City to deliver them. Junior and club president Hannah Hall said the club chose Ronald McDonald House because of all the good they do for the community.

“Ronald McDonald House is a great organization that strives to help families with sick children,” Hall said. “They provide a number of services, and are always appreciative of donations.”

Finally, long after sunset, Care Club celebrated their successful delivery with a trip to Osage Park with friends.

“This was only the second meeting I had been to, so I’m still pretty new to the club,” junior Alyssa Pavlu said, “but everyone was super friendly and made me feel welcomed. I had a great time and I can’t wait for the next meeting.”
