Politics: Why They Apply to You
April 28, 2015
According to civicyouth.org, 21.5 percent of young adults ages 18-29 vote. This means that we as young adults are not being represented at the voting booth, so our ideals and opinions are not being expressed through the government. This is no fault but our own. Sometimes it’s easy to get overwhelmed or feel like politics are too boring to bother getting involved with, but it’s important to get involved. Politics are important because you live in a country that allows your opinion to be voiced, which is spectacular within itself. And to be able to contribute your voice to how things are run in the country helps you feel apart of something bigger.
For the democratic side, the only person who has officially announced their presidential candidacy is Hillary Clinton.
- Hillary Clinton released a video on April 12th announcing that she will be running for president. The video entailed almost all demographics including two males getting engaged, and a stay at home mom.
For the republican party, we have three who have announced their presidential candidate: Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Marco Rubio.
- Ted Cruz announced his presidency via social media with tweet that said “I’m running for President and I hope to earn your support!” Cruz entered the candidacy with the idea of being the most conservative republican and the boldest.
- Rand Paul wrote on his website “I am running for President to return our country to the principles of liberty and limited government” Paul believes he doesn’t belong to either party (Republican/Democrat).
- Marco Rubio gave a speech in Miami saying: “inspired by the promise of our future, I announce my candidacy of the President of the United States.” Rubio comes from cuban parents who came to america in the 50’s. Rubio is all about helping america achieve the american dream.
If you don’t know where you stand politically, here is an accurate test you can take to see where you stand.
