May 12, 2015
Every year 96.5 The Buzz hosts a series of concerts labeled Buzz Under the Stars. The local radio station invited bands from all over the country to play and three to five bands play each night. In the past there has been three or four nights which are usually hosted at KC Live in the Power and Light District.
This year The Buzz lined up for Kitten, Meg Myers and Matt and Kim to play at Night One. The concert was May 7 and ended up being sold out. Each band there was unique in their performance and their music. Kitten was by far the most interactive with the crowd by getting on top of the shoulders of a tall boy close to the front and then making her way farther to the back of the floor. She also walked along the barrier and sat herself upon the bouncers at the front to get closer to the crowd and off the stage. She thought outside of the box when it comes to interacting with fans.
Meg Myers sounded flawless but also put on an interesting show. As their set went on the better the music got. Myers voice became more intense and you could feel the connectivity of the band while they were playing. When Myers was not playing the bass she was moving in a way that was in sync with the music but also would be a stretch to call dancing. She would move in very sharp motions and make intense faces. You could tell how much she was involved in the music and how she just did not care about moving to the beat of the drum.
Headlining, Matt and Kim were unforgettable. The moment the duo walked out on stage the enegry of KC Live just lit up. They not only sounded just like their albums but they gave their all the whole show. Kim would constantly be standing on her drum set talking to the crowd and getting everyone hyped up. One of the first things they did was come out with confetti sticks. Close to half way through the show Kim threw deflated balloons into the crowd and while the song went on more and more balloons were inflated and tossed around. Later in the show a behind the set manager collected the balloons and threw them back into the crowd for the finally. Confetti sticks, balloons, and constantly talking to the crowd Matt and Kim not only put on one of the best shows, but still sounded amazing while doing it.
