First impressions are everything. Walking into the Corner Restaurant for the first time gave me a classically homey feeling, which fit the style of food – brunch. The service, on the other hand, was less than warm. After we were seated, we were brought a wine bottle full of lukewarm water and two remarkably small glasses. Especially in this heat, we went through the bottle fairly quickly, each of us drinking 10 glasses. The bottle was not refilled until we were finished with our meal and we asked for more water. It’s small things like ridiculously small glasses and lack of chilled water that leave customers disgruntled. By the time we got our food, we were both famished, but it was well worth the wait. I got a simple scramble with tomatoes, spinach and goat cheese that was divine. It made breakfast seem classy and put together. My friend got a ribeye steak sandwich with french fries and agreed that the food made up for the mediocre service. Food is not the only component that goes into a restaurant’s greatness. I would recommend Corner Restaurant because even though the service was mediocre, I will give them a pass due to the food.

As records come back into style, record stores have been popping up in the art districts of Kansas City. Mills Record Company provides an old way to listen to new music. It is very handily separated into oldies and new releases. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful with any questions we had. The merchandise included not only records, but a variety of T-shirts, cassettes and CDs. The storefront also includes a sitting area and a record player to listen to records and hang out.

Hours: Monday-Sunday 7am-9pm
Two components that go into a good coffee shop. The coffee itself is obviously a huge part, but the atmosphere and overall feel of the setting is important as well. Broadway Coffee provided a space that was relaxing while also serving high quality coffee. It seemed like a great place to do homework on the weekend or hang out with friends.
