Freshman football looks to continue winning record
October 22, 2015
Today against Shawnee Mission West, the freshman football team hopes to keep their winning record. The game begins at 4:15 at Shawnee Mission West.
The Raiders have momentum going after beating beat Lawrence High 78-0, Sep. 30. During this game the team broke the record for the most downs and points scored by any freshman football squad in South history
“This is great. It shows the school what we are capable of and it is going to really help us get a momentum for the season going,” freshman Isaiah Hawkins said.
The team scored a total of 78 points, a total of 13 touchdowns to break the school record. The whole freshman football staff, and school, hopes the win demonstrates what the future has in store and what is yet to come every Friday night under the lights.
“When I looked up at the scoreboard I was happy that we just got the win to be honest,” freshman Trey Echols said.
Whenever one looks at a high score of a game you mainly think about the offense, this wasn’t the case in this situation.
“It was an indication of the team coming together. People usually think it’s only the offense when a game’s score is so high, but in reality the defense, special teams and offense all played a role in this game,” freshman coach Happ Thompson said.
The final freshman football game is on Oct. 28, at home against Shawnee Mission Northwest
