School has officially been canceled Tuesday, Nov. 3, in light of the Royals’ World Series win Sunday. This decision will allow students and faculty alike to celebrate the Royals’ victory, many at the World Series parade in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.

The district posted an official statement around noon Monday, but speculation and rumors had been flying around via social media since the final call that the Royals had won. A petition had also been started late Sunday night in an attempt to sway administrators to cancel class.

In their statement, the district said that they canceled because of the “many celebratory activities and the tremendous impact it is having on our community.” This is the first time since 1985,  a full 30 years ago, that the Royals have taken the crown.

“I’m really excited. I was gonna go to the parade anyway, but now I don’t have to miss a test in English,” freshman Megan Smith said.

The parade will kick off around noon Tuesday in front of the Sprint Center. It will span a total of 2.3 miles, according to KMBC.com, and will end in front of Union Station around 2 p.m., where there will be a victory rally. http://visitkc.com/RoyalCelebration
