15 Questions with Dylan Gregory
His final competition.

After four years in robotics, senior Dylan Gregory is going to his last robotics competition.
Q: What position are you in on the team? Explain what you do and why.
A: I’m team captain. I oversee and manage what happens on the team and I also help build the robot.
Q: Is robotics fun?
A: Yes, it is fun to hang out with my friends. I have met so many amazing people through robotics.
Q: What is this year’s robot going to do?
A: This year our robot will need to overcome different combinations of five obstacles each match. Ours is designed to focus mainly on the obstacles and collect points that way while still being able to shoot boulders (dodge balls) into the tower goal at the opposite end of the field.
Q: How do you plan on building it?
A: This year’s robot has already been constructed, we welded a metal frame together and painted it green, then we attach the six wheels and drive trains, next it is time to hook up a battery and test the mobility, after which we attach our retrieving and shooting mechanisms. Now it’s on to testing and perfecting.
Q: How long have you been in robotics?
A: Four years
Q: Are you excited about this year’s Regional Competition?
A: I am excited for every year’s competition because of what the competition stands for. It is a place that friendships can be forged and the atmosphere is ripe with the burning passion for building robots.
Q: What’s this year’s theme?
A: This years theme is “FIRST Stronghold” in stronghold it is Castle vs. Castle for glory.
Q: What do you think about this year’s Regional Competition theme? Why?
A: I think it’s awesome; it looks like a lot of fun.
Q: How many people are in robotics? What are the members like?
A: Twent-tw people are in robotics. They are like a family to me.
Q: What was your favorite theme for a condition?
A: Aerial assist
Q: Do you have a favorite robot?
A: Last year’s robot was my favorite.
Q: What is your favorite thing about robotics?
A: I like the people in robotics, getting to transport all the stuff to competition and all the hype in building the robot.
Q: What’s your favorite memory from robotics?
A: The ice cream socials after every competition.
Q: What was the highest rank the team has ever gotten in a competition?
A: 31, we were really lucky that year.
Q: Why did you join robotic in first place?
A: Because I want to be an engineer and robotics seems like a good way to use it as an extra curricular.
