Band Brings A Jazzy End To The School Year

The end of the school year may be nearing, but the party isn’t over yet for the jazz and brass bands.

Evening of Jazz brings the sixth grade, Indian Woods and South jazz bands together, as well as the new Southland Brass Band for a night of fun.

“We turn the cafeteria into a nightclub atmosphere,” band director Steve Adams said. “Our final exam is to throw a party.”

The unique concert is different from most because guests can dance and will be served food.

“Because it is a party atmosphere, it’s not a concert where everybody has to sit still and be quiet,” Adams said. “On that night we play our favorite music.”

Freshman Nick Velicer is looking forward to playing “Do It Fluid” with the Southland Brass Band.

“It’s fun for me to play because it’s a complicated beat,” Velicer said.

A silent auction and ticket sales for the event will help to benefit the band. The tickets, which include food, are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Evening of Jazz takes place May 7 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria.
