The Overland Park Fall Festival Saturday, Sept. 24 included a parade, farmers market, merchants sales, food and free concerts on the multiple stages that were set up through the area. At the festival, there was also an arts and craft fair.

During the festival there was a parade. South’s marching band, orchestra and dance team were in the parade. Other schools marching bands from around the area were also in the parade. The parade also included Scout groups and local businesses.

“It was fun. It took a while for us to get going but was a really fun experience,” junior pacesetter Audrey Reynolds said.

After the parade, many people walked around old downtown Overland Park and viewed all of the activities that were occurring. One business that opened their doors was Art by Avis & Others. The owner Dr. Avis Garrett-Baptist was being very social and talking to everyone who came through the door. Avis is a successful artist whose has written a book about her experience in the painting world. The business is located at 8012 Santa Fe Dr, Overland Park, KS 66204. All of the handmade art in the shop is locally made and the money that the store receives goes to the artist who created the art. Avis opens her doors to those who want to learn how to paint to do other art projects.

One area of the festival was strictly for the arts and crafts fair. The fair included many booths that portrayed many artists and photographers artwork. All of the artists were selling the artwork and the photographers were selling their pictures. There were also some booths of local businesses where were trying to draw in some more business.
