Building a community of journalists is imperative to the publication staffs growth and future success. In the Up and Coming section, you will find work from young reporters in the beginning journalism class. Throughout the semester, beginning journalism students develop their knowledge of news values, quality reporting and communication skills to report on stories at South.
The student reporting featured in the Up and Coming section is created during the Introduction to News Media course. The course is a prerequisite for students wishing to continue their time with SMS Publications. Look out for some of these students in coming years as they join The Patriot, Heritage or photojournalism staffs.
