South prides itself in being home to a wide variety of electives, clubs and sports for students to explore their interests and possibly find a new passion. These can range anywhere from Writer’s Workshop to Project Lead The Way and from Animal Rights Club to AcaDec. On Wednesday, Feb. 1 all eighth-grade students were invited to Come Look At South Night to explore the different elective classes, clubs and sports that South has to offer and hopefully get a taste of what it’s like to be a Raider.

This year, the event was set up differently than it has been in previous years. There were four 10-minute sessions for students to go to a class they were interested in and learn about it. In previous years, these sessions were for the four core classes, mostly focused on informing the parents on the curriculum and rigor of the class. This year, the event is more for the students to learn about the more interesting classes that they get to personalize their schedule with.

After the sessions were over, the students were directed to the Auxiliary Gym for the club and sports fair. The gym was set up with booths lining the walls, showing off the the numerous options. High-schoolers and faculty sponsors were stationed at each booth to welcome the eighth- graders and answer any of their questions.

“The high-schoolers were really helpful with helping us know where to go. I thought it was fun to hear about the soccer program and the engineering class,” eighth-grader Chase Davids said.
