From Sept. 1st to Sept. 9th the Orchestra students housed German exchange students. Eva Janssen (String Orchestra), Bernd Gehlen (Guitar Orchestra), Annette Bachmann (Blockenflöte Orchestra) came along with the students plus three chaperones.

“Students come from many small towns that surround the music school. This is very similar to SMS, where kids come from Overland Park or Lenexa or Prairie Village,” Orchestra instructor Jonathan Wiebe said.

The German Orchestra performed for the school Friday, Sept. 7th during second hour. It has a wide variety of instruments. There is an orchestra for strings, recorders, guitar, a rock band, a jazz band and a wind/brass orchestra.

The string orchestra performed Elegie By Faure, Once Upon a Time in the Woods by Ennio Morricone and St Paul’s Suite by Gustav Holst. Then the Blockenflöte Orchestra played the Variation of the Swan by Ludwig Minkus and Lone Ranger by Hans Zimmer. Shortly after the Blockenflöte Orchestra, the Guitar Orchestra played Rumba and Cakewalk by Debussy.
