Newspaper Members Going to State

The Raiders placed very well in KSPA Regionals.

The Kansas Scholastic Press Association holds its annual regional contest in which schools all across the state compete in varying categories related to journalism. The top three winners, as well as three honorable mentions, earn a spot at the state competition.

Several members of The Patriot competed in a very difficult division, against schools like Blue Valley, Lawrence Free State and rival Shawnee Mission East. The Raiders prevailed in several categories.

Senior Ansley Chambers earned 2nd Place in Copy Editing. She has been on staff for three-and-a-half years and has been copy editor for two years.

Junior Nathan Judd earned Honorable Mention in Editorial Cartoon and Yearbook Sports writing, although he is on the newspaper staff. He joined the staff as a reporter this year.

Junior Evan Shibel earned Honorable Mention in News Writing. He has been on staff for two years and is the sports editor and assistant Editor-in-Chief.

Senior Naomi Mitchell earned 1st Place in Academics Photography, 3rd Place in Cutline Writing and Honorable Mention in Sports Photography. She has been a photographer on staff for two years and is the photo editor.

Senior Alma Harrison earned 2nd Place in Advertising design. She has been on staff for two-and-a-half years and is the Editor-in-Chief.

Senior Gini Horton earned Honorable Mention in Advertising design and News Page Design. She has been on staff for three years and has been the online editor for two years.

Junior Trinity Clark earned Honorable Mention in Sports Photography. She has been a photographer on staff for three years and is an assistant photo editor.

All of these journalists will be competing in the state competition either on May 2 at the University of Kansas or online.
