Seniors Mason Owen and Keith Monaghan took third place in the state debate competition in Hutchinson, Kan., Jan. 12-13.
This year’s topic was transportation infrastructure investment.
“We go to a lot of tournaments [and] we invest a lot of time, so naturally we’re getting positive win records at pretty much every tournament we go to, [so that’s how we qualify for state],” Owen said.
There are also many preparations that go into winning the qualifying tournaments.

“We did a lot of research the weeks leading up it. We cut a lot of cards, read a lot of news articles, ” Monaghan said.
