Debate/Forensics Starts Preparations Early

The Debate/Forensics team is kicking off the school year with new people, new competitions, and new goals. Coach Natalie Ashley is again overseeing the team and they have already begun preparations for the competitions up ahead.

The first competition will be September 20-21, with one at Washburn Rural and the other at Blue Valley Southwest. The month leading up to the competition will see the students composing and practicing with different debate topics and prompts. After Labor Day, which this year falls on September 2, the team will begin work nights and stay after hours at school to perfect their strategies. After placing well last year at State, Ashley believes there is still room for improvement.

“After taking third place at State last year, we have a lot to do this year to get even better,” Ashley said.

The team has a long year ahead of them, and the work they are putting in is already showing growth.
