Early practices pay off

After a long week of tryouts, nearly 40 girls were selected to be apart of the four Volleyball teams. Around 10 girls are on each team. There are three new coaches this year, Kathy Bates, who was previously the freshman coach is now the varsity coach; the other two new coaches are Jack King, who is now the freshman coach, and Diane O’Nele who is the JV coach.  Returning this year is sophomore coach Caroline Ewing. All of the teams have been spending endless hours practicing and have been waking up at 5:30 a.m. to have morning practices until 7 a.m. every Friday. The girls went 3-2 beating Wichita Southeast and Lawrence during their tournament Saturday, Sept. 7 at Olathe South.

“They work hard at practice and have a true desire to improve their volleyball skills and be successful. They are very coach-able as well,” Coach O’Nele said.
