Pace Dance Competition

Long days lie ahead for the Pacesetters as they begin their competition season. The stressful days consisting of dancing, waiting on deck, changing hair and costumes, scarfing down food, and calling your mom to bring you a piece of costume begin Jan. 17. The Pacesetters will be competing this weekend, Friday evening, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Miss Kansas Dance Competition at Olathe South High School. Then followed by competing in St. Charles, Missouri the following weekend.

The Pacesetters have been practicing nearly every morning to ensure that they will look flawless in front of the judges and other teams in the area.

“They are obviously a lot different than Extravaganza or marching season practices,” senior Olivia Feathers said. “We don’t spend too much time learning the dance necessarily; we spend a lot of time on cleaning and making sure it’s really precise.”

All the hard work will surely pay off when it comes to competition day where the pressure for perfection is on.

“Our dances look really good and we all put in a ton of work and you can tell that we like our dances, so I think we’re going to do pretty good,” senior Nia Madison said.

The dances that they will be performing include solos, which will be performed Jan. 17, along with four team dances and an ensemble (officer dance), which will be performed Jan. 18.
