With Netflix becoming such a big icon, it has started to spin out their own original series. One of these series includes Hemlock Grove. A supernatural series that will take you on a suspenseful drive through their “shabby town.” The horror/mystery show combines multiple folklore and some original ideas to bring life to a monster filled town. The show follows two juniors in high school, a Luper (day walking vampire) and gypsy werewolf, as they try to solve the mysterious murders of the girls in their class. The show only has one season, for now, consisting of 13 episodes to get hooked on and put off that night’s, possibly week’s, homework. Season two is in the production process as of now, and the whole cast and crew refuses to leak any information besides the fact that the murders will be solved and lead into a much greater myth. I can not wait till season two comes out, for the heart-racing and heart-breaking series is constantly on my recently watched list. The many real-life cursing, and stressing characters leaves little to the imaginations. I constantly rewatch the series and always catch foreshadows and symbols I didn’t see the first time through.

If you’re willing to look past some of the car scene’s unrealistic green screens and don’t mind the constant blood and guts you’ll enjoy it. The high schoolers, unlike many dramas based in high school, seem realistic and honest. The cast is littered with some recognizable stars that are overshadowed by the newcomers who play most of the teenagers. Granted the show has that little detail that can either capture or repeal the audience. Either way, you should definitely watch at least three episodes of the show.
