Fried Food and Fun Concerts at the Fair

The Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson began this weekend  September 5 and will run until 14. The fair is full of different activities. My sisters and I drove down on Saturday to explore the fair and go to the Hunter Hayes concert. We got to the fair pretty hungry after a three hour drive, so we walked a long road filled with little food vendors. Although there were lots of places to buy food, there wasn’t much variety. Our options were mostly fried foods on a stick, so we settled on corn dogs and we shared some cheese curds. Later, we also decided to share a piece of fried cheesecake. It was basically dough with cream cheese filling topped with powdered sugar, and it was good.

There was an area with rides. We looked at them, but didn’t end up riding anything. There were two ferris wheels, a small rollercoaster, a zipline, a few height rides and some mild rides. We also looked at some 4H exhibits. There were some excellent photos taken for a contest and we found a dress made of newspaper in the front.

We started to make our way to the Grandstand. The seating was full. A stage was set up, and after the National Anthem was sung, Hunter Hayes came out. He was amazing. The first couple of songs sounded a little off, but after that, I didn’t notice anything and he sounded great live. It was a smaller concert, so there weren’t lots of special effects or distractions, but they made good use of lighting and brought out giant light up beach balls for the audience to toss around. Hunter even invited a girl whose sign said it was her dream to sing with him onstage to sing a verse. The concert wasn’t long but I enjoyed every minute of it.
