Forwards march up 1, 2, 3, 4. The marching band music is from the rock opera Tommy, written by the Who.

“I’ve always liked this show and got the (Tommy) album when I was 10 and loved the music and in 2003 got the music for the band, but didn’t like the drill,” band director Steve Adams said.

In 2014, the drill [choreography] changed and Adams was ready to have the band perform the show. Besides playing Tommy songs the marching band can also be heard playing “Waiting for the Robert E Lee “composed in 1912 by Lewis F. Muir and L. Wolfe Gilbert, “Star Spangled Banner,” the school song and more.

“The show is pretty fun, has cool parts but there is room for improvement,” drum major Colson Sargent.
For the field show band members must memorizes eight songs.

“It’s really fun and the best songs I’ve played for the four years I’ve been in band. People are familiar with the songs, but it’s not over played by other schools,” trumpet section leader Hannah Bonifield said.

The field show takes months of planning.

“I pick the show in April and in early May. The drill writer starts planning June through band camp. It takes two to five weeks of the school year, depending on how difficult the show is,” Adams said about finalizing the show.

During the first football game, Friday, Sept 5, the band marched the portion of the show they have learned so far.

“I really liked the music. It’s fun to play. It’s really difficult, but definitely worth it,” trumpet section leader Mark Neal said.
