ABC, Easy as RG3: “I Just Had a Bad Game”

Avery Dorsey, Staff Writer

Week three turned out to be a huge disappointment from the triple threat that savaged the league during my bye week. From scoring 117 fantasy points the previous week, my squad only summed up 61. I ended up losing in the final Monday night football game, putting me at a sorry 0-2 record. Darren Sproles, Jordy Nelson and Antonio Gates slumped statistically in a simply bad week.

Besides the Eagles high scoring tight win over the Redskins, Darren Sproles only rushed for 20 yards and had 30 reception yards for three fantasy points. The Redskins strong rush defense rang true for Darren Sproles.

Jordy Nelson and the Packers had a terrible game offensively, losing 19-7 to the Lions. Nelson had five fantasy points on 59 yards, missing a much needed touchdown that was thrown short from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

After going for 96 yards and three touchdowns the previous week, Antonio Gates was only thrown to once for eight yards for one measly fantasy point. Gate’s hamstring injury limited his playing time and mobility, causing more passes to go to his backup TE Ladarius Green.

Two players that proved their consistency are Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and Indianapolis running back Ahmad Bradshaw. In a Super Bowl rematch, Wilson and the Seahawks stuck it to the Broncos once again, winning 26-20. Wilson led his men to victory road in overtime with 258 passing yards and two touchdowns for 21 fantasy points.

Ahmad Bradshaw’s unique style of in-the-air and on-the-ground game makes him very versatile and a threat to be reckoned with.  In Sunday’s game against the Jaguars, Bradshaw rushed for 65 yards and pulled in three receptions for 18 yards, accounting for a contributing 13 fantasy points.

My insight going into week four of fantasy football is pick up any San Diego Chargers players.  The reason why is because they’re going up against the terrible Jacksonville Jaguars. In that case, I would pick up wide receiver Eddie Royal. He leads the Chargers in targets (22) and he’s coming off a week three performance of two touchdowns. Going against the Jaguars, swiss cheese defense Eddie Royal and Antonio Gates will have profitable performances.

Another two players who I already have on my team that I would recommend picking up is Minnesota Vikings running back Matt Asiata and Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. Asiata is facing the Atlanta Falcons defense who has allowed the third-most fantasy points to opposing running backs. Also with flex play consisting of bursts of tough ground play and short passes, he will spread the field to open up the Falcons defensive weaknesses.

Steve Smith Sr. is a major pick up because he’s Flacco’s main target, getting on average 10 targets per game. Thirty-five year old Smith is also playing his old team of 13 years and past shows, when it comes down to playing your old team, the players never fail to show what they let go of. Going into week four of my fantasy league, I will be looking for these players to help bounce me back and earn my first win of the season.
