ABC, Easy as RG3: Confusion

Avery Dorsey, Staff Writer

Leaving week four with confidence, I was left frustrated and 1-3 at the end of week five as a majority of my team decided to not show up. My starters as well as my bench played poorly, and one major change to my defense was the difference between a win and loss for me.  Going into week five, I have many lineup questions.

Both running backs of mine, Ahmad Bradshaw and Matt Asiata, had five fantasy points. Bradshaw had 68 rushing yards and 17 yards receiving and Asiata had 71 rushing yards and a fumble. The lack of touchdowns really hurt my chances. My backup running backs, Terence West of Cleveland, was out and will be dropped by me with the return of Ben Tate and Philadelphia running back Darren Sproles had 51 rushing yards and has seriously died down since his hot start.

Steve Smith wasn’t himself in a loss against the Colts, fumbling on the first drive for the Ravens and receiving 34 yards for one fantasy point. Although the Chargers dominated the New York Jets 31-0, sparkplug wide receiver Eddie Royal cooled down his touchdown streak, only catching three passes for 40 yards for four fantasy points.

There were a few performances that stood out specifically. Russell Wilson was nearly impeccable completing 18 of 24 passes for 201 yards for two touchdowns. Spreading the offense, Wilson also was a threat on the run, rushing for 122 yards and one touchdown for a fantasy football season high 34 points. Antonio Gates exploited the Jets defense for four receptions for 60 yards and 2 touchdowns, replacing the injured 49ers tight end Vernon Davis on my fantasy team in the starting lineup.

The Panthers defense has me beating myself up on what to do. Starting strong with a combined 25 fantasy points in the first two weeks, the Panthers then combined for -15 in the next two. Entering week five, I took a chance and went with the Chiefs defense, benching the Panthers. This risky decision went poorly when the Panthers defense sneaked by the tough Chicago Bears for two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a touchdown for 18 fantasy points. My defensive troubles are my biggest problem. With little options on the waiver wire, I’m left to take risks based on team matchups.
