ABC, RG3: Close Call

Avery Dorsey, Staff Writer

Sitting on the edge of my couch, eyes plastered to the TV, I watched the Philadelphia Eagles wipe the floor with the Giants. My eyes never left Eagles’ wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and Giants’ tight end Larry Donnell, two of my opponent’s players who would decide my fate. With the game winding down, the Eagles withered the clock with the run game, clinching a win for myself.

Maclin was unsupportive in the Eagles shocking win on the supposedly on fire Giants, catching a measly two receptions for 16 yards and 1 fantasy point. Larry Donnell was invisible along with the rest of the Giants offense, catching one pass for 6 yards. Heading into week 7, I am 2-3, earning my second win by a margin of 82-80.

Week six, I witnessed Russell Wilson’s first bad outing. Completing only 50% of his passes for 126 yards, he threw one interception along with one rushing touchdown. Making his 10 fantasy point game against the Cowboys worse, both of my backup quarterbacks had near spotless performances. Colin Kaepernick had 343 yards and three touchdowns for 28 fantasy points and Joe Flacco 306 yards and 5 touchdowns for 32 points. Although I won no matter my quarterback misfortune, I trust Wilson this week against the Rams, who allow on average 19 fantasy points to opposing QB’s, the eighth highest.

My recommendations for week seven is to put trust into the league leading team in rushing touchdowns, the Browns. Stealing the backup running back position from Terrance West behind starter Ben Tate, Isaiah Crowell should earn somewhere around 10 or more touches this week against the worst defense in the NFl, the Jaguars. Averaging 5.4 ypc (yards-per-carry) with an overall four touchdowns, Crowell will be beneficial to fantasy teams everywhere.

I believe Oakland Raiders wide receiver James Jones will be profitable against the Arizona Cardinals, who allow the second most fantasy points to opposing wideouts in the NFL. Another reason Jones is a sure pick up is because he’s easily the number target for quarterback Derek Carr with a reception rate of 74%, beating out his previous two quarterbacks, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.

If you’ve kept up with my past few posts, you know my ongoing struggle with defenses. After another failure from the Panthers defense, I have officially rid them of my life to the waiver wire. In the meantime, I have picked up the Cowboys defense, whose promising 5-1 record and consistent positive fantasy output, make a very safe pick. Starting week 7 for me, I plan on using my other new defense, the Chicago Bears. Minus a weakened back seven, the Bears defense have produced anyway, picking up interceptions and fumbles every which way. This week, they spar with the Miami Dolphins, who give up the fifth most fantasy points to opposing defenses, making the Bears a definite sleeper.
