ABC, Easy as RG3: Playoff Push

I improved exceptionally, but two bad lineup choices was the difference between a win and a loss against Tj Ball, who has the best record in our league. Losing 94-116, my bad decision to bench backup running back Jeremy Hill of the Cincinnati Bengals and quarterback Joe Flacco, led me to a measly record of 2-6 heading into the bye week. I picked up Jeremy Hill immediately after Giovani Bernards injury to his hip, benching him for week 9. The reason I didn’t start Hill was because of the rumors of sharing handoffs with two other running backs.

To be safe, I benched him, only to be shocked by his output. Russell Wilson only came up with 10 fantasy points on 179 receiving yards, no touchdowns or interceptions and 31 rushing yards. Wilson’s trouble finding receivers has been costly lately. Joe Flacco outscored struggling Wilson with 18 fantasy points. Passing for 303 yards and two touchdowns, Flacco and the Ravens still managed to fall short of the Steelers, struggling against the Pittsburgh pass rush.

Going into week 11 I have five players on a bye week, and a injured Broncos running back, Ronnie Hillman, leaving an empty flex spot. To fill that space I picked up Arizona Cardinals wide receiver John Brown. You may have heard about John Brown from his recent ridiculous touchdown celebration after a 75 yard touchdown reception last week against the Philadelphia Eagles. I’m taking a risk with Brown against the Lion’s stingy defense, putting trust in his random spurts of stardom. With Malcom Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald doing so poorly, Brown has been the Cardinals top receiver.

I’m also really excited to see Jordy Nelson come back from his 152 yard and two touchdown game, to play the Eagle’s defense, allowing the third most fantasy points to wide receivers. Aaron Rodgers has thrown 18 of his 25 touchdowns to either Nelson or Cobb, eight of those are from Nelson. Nelson is going to be a threat down the field, picking up around 100 reception yards and a touchdown.

Being a hometown Chiefs fan, I will surely cheer on the Chiefs, but to an extent. This week, they’re matching up with Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks and I really need Wilson to perform exceptionally well in order to grab a win. Facing a tough rush defense from the Chiefs, Wilson will have to scramble once again, already exceeding over 500 rushing yards for the season, on his way to 888 yards. What Wilson can’t find in the air, he makes up for on the ground, rushing for his second highest rushing yards in one game last week: 107 yards.

The last few weeks before the playoffs is where my team will need to pull it together and must up a few wins. I’m hoping my fantasy team plays accordingly, and my risks come out prosperous in the end.
