Capping off a High School Career

The final night. Graduation. Stadium lights illuminate the field as students file into their seats, all donning matching caps and gowns. This sea of hunter green linen is difficult to accomplish, and the process of keeping students accountable is a year-long process.

During registration before school each year, seniors have the opportunity to record their measurements and order their caps and gowns.

“Typically we get the majority of students at registration,” English teacher Pamela Schaff said. “But, there are always around 45 students who don’t, and that’s not good enough.”

Schaff, who is in charge of graduation attire, is dealing with a new method for ordering clothing.

“Usually, I get a list from Balfour [the company responsible for the caps and gowns] that tells me which students forgot to order their items. This year, they changed it,” Schaff said.

Now, instead of Schaff keeping students accountable, the seniors themselves must be responsible for purchasing their caps and gowns.

“Last year, we went around to all the English classes and reminded the seniors,” Schaff said. “This year, we really hope that the students will remember so that graduation will go smoothly.”

So, class of 2015, check to make sure you have ordered your cap and gown by going to the registrar in the counseling center or the front office. Caps and gowns can be ordered through the Balfour website at http://shop.balfour.com/smi27828/catalog/category/view/s/grad-packs/id/312801/. Together, the cap and gown cost $23 while packages with other memorabilia are more expensive. You don’t want to miss out on the experience of throwing your cap in the air with fellow graduates on your last night of high school.
