ROLA ALASMAR | LEAVING FOR SPRING BREAK

Students are under an incredible amount of stress throughout the school year. Constantly swamped by schoolwork, extracurriculars and jobs, all while trying to have a social life. Spring Break provides students with an opportunity to take a break from their lives and get away for a little while.

Going away with your friends for Spring Break is sort of a rite of passage for students. Students should take advantage of their time off and use it to create experiences, to go somewhere they’ve never seen before, or do something they’ve never done before. And for seniors especially, it may be the last time you’ll get to get away with your friends before everyone parts ways after high school.

There will be plenty of time in your life for you to focus on making money and having a job. But for now our job is to get as much as we can out of life. To get away from the place you’ve spent your entire life and see the world. No amount of money can compare to life experiences. In 10 years you won’t be looking back on that time you stayed home during Spring Break saying “thank God I made that extra $200.” You’ll want to look back on the amazing moments with the people you cared about. The amazing things you saw when you left Netflix and the living room behind.

Spring Break is a chance for students to get out of town for a little while and create memories that will last forever. It’s gives us a chance to get out of our heads for a little while and just enjoy ourselves. So take off work for a week or put down the TV remote and do something exciting with your time.

NANAE URANO | STAYING FOR SPRING BREAK

The final months dwindle down and the end of the school year is coming near. Friends gather to plan trips they will remember for a lifetime. Seniors decide to go all out and cross oceans while others keep it simple and fun in the states. But why plan this vacation for Spring Break? Is this week long trip really going to be enough time to savor your last days of freedom?

When I go on vacation I like to stay for a good period of time to take in the scenery, famous sites and to just relax. I don’t like to rush and have a strict plan on when and where to be. A vacation is meant for you to shut off your brain and not have to worry about anything. Why not save your money and work more hours to go somewhere you have dreamt about. I know the longer you stay the more money it may cost. However, with a little planning and time to save, there may not be much of a difference. You also have the chance to visit again but that would add another price of a round-trip ticket.

This break also gives you a chance to save up more money. The extra hours you pick up wouldn’t matter if you don’t have to worry about school the next day. If you were to go on a trip you would lose the money spent on it plus the money you lose from taking days off of work. Students have to come back to school with work they have been procrastinating, gas to get them to places, and other bills right after they emptied their bank accounts. For seniors they have college in the picture and need money to keep them from sinking in debt.

Going on a trip of a lifetime might have been a good idea in the moment but in the long run it will just lead to many obstacles that could have been avoided. Students say they are waiting for the summer to save up money but why spend the summer working all the time when you could spend time with friends and family. You’re slaving away as your time with friends and family run out and you have to go back to school again.
