Yo! Welcome to today’s episode of Rising Sun. We’ve got some big news for you guys so stay tuned!

Anime has grown incredibly popular in recent years, thanks in no small part to Dragon Ball Z airing on Cartoon Network from 1999 to 2003. Dragon Ball Z was the second half of the saga of Saiyan warrior Son Goku and his battles to protect the universe. DBZ was immensely popular during its run, thanks to intense martial arts battles, epic sagas, heartwarming lessons and it’s memorable and universally appealing characters.

So when the show came to a close, fans were asking for more.

And we got more. We got the Dragon Ball prequel series and a third series called Dragon Ball GT, as well as a 20th anniversary revision called Dragon Ball Z Kai, which is continuing its run in Japan right now. We’ve also seen 17 feature films like Cooler’s Revenge, The Dead Zone and Lord Slug. More recently, series creator Akira Toriyama has even returned to his beloved series by being heavily involved with two new films; Battle of Gods and the upcoming Resurrection ‘F’.

And yet, Dragon Ball Z’s universally loved characters are so popular, fans just want to see the Saiyans on the television screen once again.

So Toei Animation, the studio that made Dragon Ball, responded by announcing on April 28th that Dragon Ball Super will begin airing on Fuji TV this July, replacing Dragon Ball Z Kai. The new series is set in the 10-year gap between the last two episodes of Dragon Ball Z, and will chronicle what Goku and his friends are doing in that time period. Currently, not much is known about Dragon Ball Super, like the release date or even if it will be out in America, but Dragon Ball Super will definitely send shockwaves throughout the television industry when it does premiere.
