Starting Monday, Arabic Club has been collecting donations for refugees affected by the war in Syria. Most of these refugees are families who are seeking asylum in Europe, having walked through the Middle East toward Hungary.

“Disasters like this can happen to anywhere to anyone,” Arabic teacher Annie Hasan said. “This about finding it in our hearts to help other people during their time of need, just like how we would hope they’d do that same for us.”

Donatable items should preferably be able to fit in a backpack, and protein bars and hygiene items are top priority.

Other items considered for donation include:

  • Coloring books and crayons
  • Soap
  • Baby wipes
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Floss
  • Sunscreen

The Syrian refugee donation drive ends Friday, Sept. 18.
