The X-Files Revival

The X-Files Revival

Mark Holland, Writer

“The X-Files” aired from 1993 to 2002 and was a big television success. It told the intriguing story of two FBI agents (Mulder and Scully) who investigated unexplained phenomenon. It was a genre defining series that kept audiences captivated. Now, 14 years after the series ended, it’s come back as a six episode event. Here it brings back the original characters and places them in a bunch of all-new odd mysteries. The question that is on everybody’s mind is, “Will this new event live up to the original series?”

It did not. The first mythology episode seems to be the only episode truly worth investment. The stand-alone episodes were just plain bizarre (even for X-files) and not very creative. This series does not seem to have the old dynamic that made the original series work. However, it was great to see Mulder and Scully working together again, and the first episode was pretty good. It continued the alien-cover up story that satisfied devoted fans in its original run.

There have been five episodes so far and the final episode will air this Monday, Feb. 22 on Fox. The final episode looks like it will be a great bookend story, just like the first episode, but that remains to be seen.

Anybody who is a fan of the original series should definitely still check this series out because although it does not meet the expectations it has gathered, it has key plot points, that are definitely important to the characterization and development of the world famous FBI duo.

The miniseries event will end soon, so anybody who still wants to watch it can check it out via Hulu, then tune in for the finale this Monday.
