The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) hosted its first annual Trunk or Treat on Thursday, Oct. 27. The event was meant to bring the community together and engage the elementary kids in a fun activity at south.

Many clubs got involved to get kids excited about the different activities they could participate in in the future. Each group came up with a themes for their trunk and dressed up in costumes to match. Some themes included the movie “Up” and “Candyland”. The groups passed out candy and interacted with the kids and their families while KSMS played Halloween themed music.

It is important, as high-schoolers, to be mentors to the younger generations. Hosting a fun activity like the trunk or treat is a way to get the families more involved and excited about coming to South in the future.

In addition to the other families from the grade schools, some South teachers and faculty brought their families to the event.

“My kids had so much fun. I was so proud of the students at South for getting it all set up and being so nice to my kids,” Special Education teacher Laura Keithly said.

NAHS has plans to make Trunk or Treat an annual tradition and improve it each year. Next year they are planning to have food and encourage more groups to get involved.

“I do hope that they do it again next year and I hope it gets bigger. We will definitely be back,” Keithly said.
