SM South (15-0) beat Olathe East (12-3) Wednesday Feb. 4 64-51 after narrowly beating Olathe North the night prior.
“Well, if you ever want to make it to the state tournament, we’re going to play back to back games. So McFall was preaching that to us,” senior Ben Allen said. “If we want to do the things we want to do this season, we’re gonna have to play back to back games. It’s just a good preview of what the state tournament will be.”
The game was close, with the Raiders having a 29-26 lead at halftime and halfway through the third quarter the Hawks were able to take the lead. Senior Tye Mwenda and junior Cade Alholm, who had nine of their 12 third quarter points, finished the game with 16 and 14 points respectively.
“Olathe East played a heck of a game,” Allen said. “They shot really well, and we weren’t defending like we usually do, and they’re coming out hitting shots.”
Despite this, South was able to pull away in the 4th quarter led by senior Kaiden Davis who had nine points in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 14. With three minutes left the Raiders were up 54-49 and didn’t look back from there ending the game on a 10-2 run.
South (16-0) is back in action Friday Feb. 6 at home against SM Northwest (5-11).
