South showed why they’re preseason ranked No. 1 in the state with a victory over St. Thomas Aquinas.
The Raiders topped the Saints 66-36 Tuesday night at Aquinas.
“Oh, we were so hyped to play this game, and we came out really excited. In the first half, our defense was the best we’ve ever seen,” senior Ben Allen said.
At halftime, the Raiders were up 30-8, led by strong defense, with Allen and junior Conor Kerrigan combining for half of the first-half points. Allen and Kerrigan finished the game with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
In the third quarter, the Saints were able to cut into the deficit, scoring 16 points in the quarter, led by senior Nic Sabers, who finished the game with 10 points.
South fed off the energy of the student section all night, supporting them and giving the students a show.
“Oh, it’s awesome that we put on a show for the students, so more students come to the games,” Allen said. “It’s just awesome to have a supporting group to come to the games and enjoy the show.”
The Raiders (1-0) will travel to Carthage, Missouri, for the Carthage boys invitational Dec. 11 through Dec. 13. The Saints (0-2) will travel to St. Michael the Archangel on Friday, Dec. 12.
