South defeated Blue Valley West Tuesday, Jan. 6.
After a close victory over Lee’s Summit, the Raiders traveled to BVW hoping to keep their undefeated season intact where they ended up winning 70-53.
“They’re a top team in the state; they ranked 7th in 6A,” senior Ben Allen said. “We knew coming in that there’s gonna be a tough game, and they’re well coached, and they play hard.”
After being up 35-31 at halftime, the Raiders were able to put together a strong third quarter, scoring 17 points. Allen had seven in the quarter to give South a 52-44 lead going into the final quarter. Allen finished the game with 25 points.
South dealt with foul trouble as seniors Max McKenna and Drake Debaun had four fouls each, forcing others like seniors Kaiden Davis and Thomas Burns to step up. They finished the game with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
With 3:18 left in the game, South was up 59-50, holding the lead and keeping the Jaguars arms’ length for the rest of the game.
South (7-0) hoped to keep its undefeated season at home on Friday, Jan. 9, against SM West (0-6).
“We’re going to come off of this as a learning experience, and just come out of this as respecting this team and this program and hoping to kill Shawnee Mission West on Friday,” Allen said.

The Raiders won 91-34 over the Vikings to keep their undefeated season.
Senior Ben Allen led all scoring with 21 points to continue his streak with three straight games of at least 20 points.
“I’m really just grateful for my teammates getting me open shots,” Allen said. “I’m just letting the game come to me and doing whatever it takes to help the team win.”
Junior Conor Kerrigan also had 14 and senior Drake DeBaun had 12.
South (8-0) will play host to Gardner Edgerton Tuesday, Jan. 13 as the first game of a three game week.
