South Lady Raiders 76 Gardner Edgerton 43
The South Lady Raiders defeated Gardner Edgerton 76-43 in a home game Tuesday, Jan. 13.
South came in off a win Friday, Jan. 9 against SM West looking to keep momentum in league play and hold on to the No. 1 rank in Kansas class 6A.
The Raiders were able to contain the Trailblazers and convert turnovers into shots. Freshman Riley Kramer led the Raiders with 22 points.
Senior Landri Schaffer is one of the best guards in the state and was the focal point of the Lady Raiders gameplan on defense.
“We knew Landri Schaffer was one of the best guards in the state, not just our league, but the whole state,” head coach Mark Western said. “So we felt like if we got her going up and down with the ball in her hand, it was going to make it pretty hard for her to stay aggressive.”
Schaffer finished the game with 26 points.
South (8-1) will play at SM North Friday, Jan. 16. This is an important game for Western as it’s a homecoming of sorts as he returns to his former high school.
“Shawnee Mission North is my alma mater, so that’s a little exciting for me,” Western said. “It’s just another opportunity that we get to play together and compete together with this group.”
