Get Involved at SMS

A guide for new students to find their people and passions at South

As a freshman, you hear it all the time: “Get involved! Join activities! Make friends!” It may sound redundant, but being involved is the best way to find your people and your passions in high school.

It can be scary to put yourself out there and try something new. With so many options, it can be hard to decide what classes to enroll in and what activities to participate in. With four exciting and unknown years ahead of you, now is the best time to try something that makes you a little uncomfortable. There are so many fun electives that require no prerequisites, and there are many sports teams that don’t make cuts at tryouts!

How to get involved

  • Enroll in elective classes (co-curricular activities) that YOU find interesting!

  • Listen to the announcements and look for posters about club meetings.

  • Follow SMS clubs and sports teams on Instagram/Twitter.

  • Try out for a sport.

  • Talk to people! There’s a lot you can find out just by speaking with classmates.
