To kick off the first meeting of the year, French club met in room 373 on Wednesday Sept 3rd. Everyone got a chance to introduce themselves, then the Treasure, Social Media Manager, and President for the year were identified. After introductions and discussions about the plans for the year, each table made vibrant water color paintings of different French monuments, like the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower.
Two weeks later, French club conjugated again to do an Eiffel Tower building competition. The participants used mini marshmallows and uncooked spaghetti to craft structures that were supposed to resemble the Eiffel tower. Teachers from other classes were brought in to judge the structures based on three categories: most life-like, sturdy, and creative.
The next meeting, the group made crêpes. They used a special circular device that heats up like a skillet to cook them.
“So you get this special thing for making crepes,” said French club member Alexander Welzenbach, “[once] it’s all heated up, you dip it into batter, and then the batter will stick on and you just keep it on there until it’s all cooked. Then when you take it off and decorate it.”
Once the crepes were ready, they topped them with butter and sugar and watched The Princess and the Frog while they ate their creations.
French club is continuing to appreciate French culture and keep up traditions from previous years in a fun and inviting environment. Everyone is welcome to attend French club, even if you aren’t interested in learning French.
